Every year around this time on 15th or 16th of December my friend and I decide to go on a winter walk on Kahlenberg, a small hill in the forrest of Vienna. We usually head there in the morning or around noon so we can walk down the hill during daylight. During this pass couple of years, this lovely walk turned out to be our little tradition!
We took the tram at around 1:30 pm and arrived 20 minutes later at Grinzing which is a little village-like part of a district of Vienna. From there, we took the bus to the top of the hill. We were pretty lucky with the weather yesterday, as it was still cold and crispy but sunny. The sky just looked so magical!
We took the route back to Grinzing which turned out to be a really long one! We walked about 1 1/2 hours until we decided to take the bus for the remaining distance.
We really fancied some hot chocolate and a kind of pastry after our walk, so we looked for a cafe to rest for a minute in Grinzing. There a many great options for cake and delicious and rich german dishes and walking trough this cute village is a joy itself!
We found a cute little cafe, had a hot chocolate and viennese apple strudel and enjoyed the warm cosy environment for a bit.
At around 5 pm we took the bus back to Vienna centre. One of our friends host a little Christmas get together Dinner party, so we wanted to prepare something quick and easy to take there. I discovered a Christmas tree pastry dish recipe on Hollies Blog yesterday morning and we decided to give it a go but filling it with feta cheese and spinach rather then Nutella! It turned out pretty well and was so easy so prepare!
We had a super nice evening with friends, a lot of food, vine and board games. It was the last time we saw a few of our friends before we all head back home for Christmas, so it was good to get together like that!
Hope you have a great Sunday!
